Kids, hop aboard Reading on the Railroad for a journey into fun and imagination! Hear a classic tale of suspense and drama followed by hands-on activities that will make your trip one to remember! Participants will also visit the exhibition Cut!
January 7th- Glass Slipper, Gold Sandal: A Worldwide Cinderella
This beautifully illustrated book captures seventeen versions of the classic Cinderella tale in one extraordinary book. Cinderella is a character we all know and love, but few know just how widespread her tale really is. Cinderella can be found in Indonesia, Japan, China, Iraq, Laos, Russia, and many more countries. This unique book shows readers how different cultures celebrate this fairytale, always with a happy ending. Come to The Durham Museum to share this classic tale with us on January 7th.
February 4th- The Pirate Cruncher
Purplebeard and his greedy crew are on a treasure hunt. They encounter a mysterious (and possibly suspicious) fiddle player who has the treasure map that is the key to their success. However, this strange fiddle player warns them of the pirate cruncher, a deadly monster who guards the treasure they seek. Will they overcome the dangerous pirate cruncher and find the treasure they seek? Find out on February 4th!
March 3rd- Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation
When two cats in the neighborhood disappear, Ike Larue finds himself in jail as the main suspect. Much to his horror, his owner is out of town and unable to bail him out. Ike writes desperate letters to Mrs. Larue, while he furiously searches for the missing felines in order to clear his name. The pictures in this story tell a different tale than Ike’s letters. Bring your detective hats on March 3rd to find out what really happened with Ike and the missing cats!
April 7th- The Duchess of Whimsy
The Duchess is much to important and exciting for the Earl of Norm, until one day something goes horribly wrong at a dinner party. The Duchess’s sick chef leaves her and her friends hungry and desperate for food! When the Early of Norm sneaks off to make a simple grilled cheese sandwich, The Duchess wonders if she was wrong about him all along. Will this fairytale end happily ever after? Find out on April 7th!
